The vehicle pass-by noise test requires the vehicle to be driven through a test site at full acceleration according to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) or SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) recommendations. Peak noise level, measured on the dB(A) scale at a distance of 7.5 meters from the centre of the test track, determines the test level. The low cost pass-by noise instruments provide the A-weighted peak-level-hold value of the sound level meters. This analysis technique does not enable to associate the sound level with vehicle noise sources for the non-stationary engine RPM (Revolutions Per Minute). A solution to follow the value of each noise spectrum component as an order of the fundamental frequency consists of using of the Vold-Kalman order tracking filter.
