Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) find application in industrial indoor and outdoor environments transporting raw materials from the warehouse to the shop floor, components from machine to machine and the finished products back to the warehouse. In this paper, an effective approach to apply AGVs to transport newsprint rolls in pressroom of newspaper office using inductive guidance is presented. We develop a new prototype AGV YC-I with smart, compact, and modular characteristics. The kinematics model and simulation and experiments of the AGV is introduced in this paper. Mathematical relations of the AGV's speed, the electromechanical time constant Tm of motor and the distance between center of the forward antenna and center of two driving wheels A for a differentially driven AGV are presented. Simulation studies show how these factors affect the AGV in tracking performance. Experiments also indicate that the control scheme provides good control compared to the common control.
