This paper describes mathematical models and solution algorithms to simulate the vertical dynamics of railway vehicle-track-ground system. By taking account of the track substructures, an existing program (DIFF) is further developed so that it permits to carry out dynamic analysis of the whole vehicle-track-ground system. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of track and vehicle parameters on wheel-rail vertical dynamic forces when raising the axle load from 22.5 ton to 25 ton. This theoretical study is motivated by the practical need when we determine appropriate limit values of the vertical track forces for the purpose of accepting freight vehicles with 25 ton axle loads.
