The development process of two research vehicles Virage2000 and Viragette is being outlined. Representing the platform for studies and research activities at the Mechatronic Centre Northrhine-Westfalia the design of the two tilting threewheelers offers a suitable example for an integrated mechatronical design process. The progress in design methodology is carried out by comparing the varied use of simulation techniques and CAD-tools. By using advanced manufacturing technology product costs could be minimized. Building and driving tilting vehicles attracts lecturers as well as students.
