The survey of domestic and foreign railway development, the degradation forms of high-speed rail wheel and the development trend of new materials for high-speed rail wheel are introduced. The common idea in developing new materials for high-speed railway wheel is to reduce the content of carbon and add some microalloying elements. The reduction of strength and increment of toughness result in the increasing of rhegma-resistance, especially in the increasing of shelling-resistance. This idea is very important to railway speed upgrading in China.
