Shafts of high speed trains require regular in-service ultrasonic inspections. A mechanised inspection equipment allows inspection of hollow shafts for all relevant flaw orientations from only one side in only one run. Considerable time savings in combination with high defect detectability and confidence can be achieved using this system. Details of the layout and the mode of data evaluation are presented along with operation experience with the new system called Shuttle.
