The sliding friction of several samples of coextruded strips marked for weatherstrip was measured at different temperatures. The static and kinetic coefficient of frictions were the parameters of interest, and their variation with temperature and composition. The samples consisted of the conventional HDPE/UHMWPE coating of Tokiwa, two samples of coatings from DSM and two competitive samples. Overall, LFC-01 coating showed the lowest COF, due to a combination of a surface with good slip properties and a small contact area. LFC-02 and LFC-03 gave slightly higher COF. LFC-04 and LFC05 demonstrated the highest values of the COF over the whole temperature range. A strong dependence of the COF on the temperature was observed for all coatings. Tokiwa slip coat showed also the best abrasion resistance followed by LFC-02 and LFC-04 materials. The lowest modulus was recorded for LFC-05 and the highest one for LFC-01. Two DSM samples (LFC-02 and LFC-03) showed intermediate values of modulus. Overall slip coat materials from Tokiwa and DSM gave the best balance of coefficient of friction, abrasion resistance and stiffness.
