This paper presents the results of the analysis of corrugated HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipe culverts for underground drainage applications. A pipe with inside diameter of 21 inches and outside diameter of 24.5 inches is considered. The design load considered is the soil load and the vehicular load. First the pipe is analyzed using the classical elasticity solutions and typical design procedures used by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials). Then the pipe is analyzed and tested in field-simulated environment using STAAD III and ANSYS 5.4 finite element software. The results based on the analytical solution and the finite element method is compared. The design is found to be safe for the specific configuration taken.
