Low moisture absorption composites are mandatory for space and radome applications. Most very low moisture absorption resins for advanced composites use are based on cyanate ester resin chemistry, but cyanates have issues related to pre-cure moisture sensitivity. An epoxy based resin system has been developed which has very low moisture absorption. The composite possesses moisture absorption similar to that of cyanate esters and significantly lower than current toughened epoxy resins. Mechanical, thermal and electrical properties are presented which demonstrate it is equivalent to cyanate ester resins in most respects, but does not suffer from the problems of pre-cure moisture degradation.
