A laboratory technique for accelerated moisture absorption has been developed. With this technique moisture absorption can be realized which is representative for moisture absorption in the most humid areas of the word. Relations between the maximum amount of moisture absorbed and the humidity of exposure have been determined based on accelerated tests as well as on tests under natural conditions. Futhermore, a numerical model has been developed in order to analyse the moisture diffusion process. A good correlation was found between the amount of moisture absorbed under outdoor conditions and the amount calculated using the model.
