With oil and gas being discovered in increasingly deeper waters, the cost of traditional ROV operations represents a growing part of the field's total operational expenditures, A new project called Swimmer has been set up to demonstrate it is possible to operate a standard work ROV for inspection tasks on ultra deepwater fields without the need for long and heavy umbilicals, special support vessels and their associated costs.
