The paper deals with the design and development of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) synchronous motor drive for an electrical scooter. Wide flux weakening operations are assured by both appropriate motor design and accurate drive topology selection. Details on optimized motor manufacturing, design considerations and hints on control strategy are described in the paper. Experimental results from a working prototype are included as well.
