A project to commercially launch satellites at the Tanegashima Space Center (TNSC) has begun. As part of this project, the number of launches must be increased and their cost reduced. To attain project goals, it was decided to build more vehicle assembly buildings (VABs) and launch pads (LPs). To transport movable launchers (MLs) among facilities, the following is required: smooth transport, accurate setting, high stability independent of uneven ground, and continuous electrical power supplies for satellites during transport. In developing the launcher transporter (LT), a multiwheel drive for smooth transport, an automated guided for accurate setting, a horizontal stabilization system for rockets and the electrical power supply for satellites are developed. This paper discusses these systems. In addition, by installing continuous power supplies for satellites, the satellites can be mounted in the VAB, and launching efficiency is enhanced. Henceforth, with the aim of launching the first set of H-HA rocket in 2001, further feasibility tests of ML transporters will be conducted by combined tests of the GTV-1 (ground test vehicle 1) and the ground side facilities.
