S.K.K. Co., Ltd. and Hokkaido Industrial Technology Center have jointly developed a new type of block for constructing seaweed cultivation shoals. The block is designed to create seaweed cultivation shoals which serve as the environments for the cultivation of useful seaweeds, the feeding grounds for sea urchins, the places for the purification of aqueous environments, the opulent fishing grounds in randy regions. At the block apex where seaweeds tend to adhere and grow, a detachable seaweed adhesion and growth panel is provided. The new block is rounded throughout, so there is hardly any damage inflicted by the block itself, and since the seabed is sandy, it will be possiblr to produce excellent kombu free of injuries. Not only kombu but other types of useful seaweeds can be produced with minimal injuries, so the new block enables the production of all types of quality seaweed products.
