To meet the truck manufacturer goals weight / cost reduction and decreasing the cycles of maintenance LFT, one of the suspension components suppliers, had to develop casted housings and rubber bearings with a higher load capacity. By decreasing the dimensions of the parts the durability behaviour had to be investigated very carefully by means of fatigue aspects. Therefore LFT carried out with close correspondence to the customers real load data collection on the customers test tracks under field test condition. On basis of woehler diagrams of the weakest components, the rubber joints, durability calculation work was proceeded for each part (two V-links and four torque rods per vehicle) and for each test condition. Standard variations: variation of the freight condition, variation of the test track, variation of the V-link design. With these results LFT has the following abilities: determination of the influence of different freight conditions, choosing the right link size for the correspondent vehicle, comparison of the different test tracks at the customers, experience in the permissible damage rates of similar parts with rubber bearings. The strategy for each project remains the same: comparison of the field test results with the calculation, comparison with field tests results for which calculations are available and which run in series production without any trouble, reproduction of the failure/defect on the test rig. The axle configuration (e.g. the connection between axle and plate spring) has a big influence on the V-link loads.
