The choice of power equipment for an operational substation in the Khar'kov subway system is described. The inverter currents and voltages are calculated using a computer. It is found that, when using switchable thyristors, no additional power transformer is required, and there are no equalizing currents between the rectifier and inverter. In recuperative conditions, the voltage in the dc grid is somewhat increased and the settings of the voltage monitoring units for the electric rolling stock must be adjustet.
