Line pipe with outside diameters greater than 24 in. of solid AF22 and clad materials are introduced. Regarding the clad pipe the cladding stainless steels TP316L, MW2832 and MW2242 as well as the base material are investigated. Main points of these investigations are microstructure, precipitates, heat-treatment, mechanical and technological properties and corrosion behavior. Subjects of the microstructure examinations are e.g. austenite-ferrite ratio of AF22 and the precipitation behavior of the cladding materials depending on different heat-treatments. For the solid AF22 the mechanical and technological properties are determined. For the clad material chemical composition of the base material and the rolling and heat-treatment conditions of the clad plates are selected specifically so that on the one hand precipitates in the cladding material will not occur and on the other hand optimum mechanical and technological properties of the base material are achieved. Additionally the properties of the longitudinal submerged-arc welds are investigated. These examinations include the weld metal and the heat-affected zone. Studies on corrosion behavior of both types of line pipe are conducted in highly corrosive sour environments with regard to weightloss corrosion, galvanic corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
