This paper is concerned with the sizing and selection of an hydraulic accumulator system for regenerative braking in a city bus and with an evaluation by computer simulation of alternatives for its integration in the vehicle driveline. The paper builds upon earlier work published by the authors which has considered typical duty cycle and performance data for the bus. This is reviewed and used to justify the choice of accumulator system. Here the accumulator system is considered in conjunction with both conventional and hydrostatic split power transmissions, and the effect upon bus performance determined for operation over a typical route.
