A robot that can inspect a spherical gas storage tank while the tank is on stream has been developed. The robot multileg type using suction vacuum pads, and can walk anywhere on a spherical tank which has an uneven surface due to weld lines. This robot inspects welding seams using multichannel ultrasonic flaw detecting scanner provided as its working unit. Through the field tests this robot system was proved to be practically useful for actual spherical gas storage tanks.
