The method of dynamic analysis of mooring systems is reviewed and different ways of calculating the different forces are discussed. An approximate method for calculating slowly varying drift forces in both long- and short-crested sea states is presented. Calculations of the slow drift oscillations of a floating box using this and other methods are performed. The method agrees well with another known method in long-crested sea. In short-crested sea no good comparisons can be done since, to the author's knowledge, no other methods are yet developed which apply to this case.
