The motion of a uniform, vertical pipe is modeled using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. Effects of rotational restraint at the barge end, self-weight and lower end-ballast are included, with longitudinal and transverse excitations due to wave and barge motion. Critical pipe lengths for system stability and peak dynamic responses are predicted in exploratory studies.
