A model test program was undertaken to investigate the important phenomena governing cold water pipe towing and swing down operations and to assess the validity of analytical models developed during the project. Specific objectives of the test program were to provide engineering data for tow stability, tow resistance, tow heading limitations, tow maneuver characteristics, and deployment loads during swing down. In addition test data were obtained to aid in the development of contingency plans for emergencies including CWP drift, flooding and uncontrolled deployment. Several alternative towing techniques (surface, awash, deep subsurface) were examined to assess their relative merits.
