A whole range of papers has dealt with the problem of the uniformity of passenger car tyres, covering the causes for non-uniformity to the evaluation of non-uniformity effects on the vehicle. This paper concentrates on the uniformity of truck and bus tyres, an area not dealt with to such a high degree as the problems of car tyre uniformity. Experience has proved that the problem of bus and truck tyre uniformity is equally important especially in connection with increased safety and comfort requirements of bus and truck tyres. The paper describes an experiment where a series of experimental truck tyres were produced with built-in defects in the casing and tread area based on the production experience. The measured results indicate the effect of built-in defects on uniformity values, and the effects of such a tyre on the vehicle. The measuring conditions (inflation pressure and radial load) were selected in accordance with the wheel operating conditions of the tyres on vehicles. The measured uniformity values (radial and lateral force variations, radial and lateral harmonic and conicity) were found to be functions of inflation.
