An algorithm is presented that identifies landmarks in low-resolution images. The appearance of underwater landmarks may vary widely from different viewpoints, making recognition of an isolated object impossible. Object positions, however, remain fixed, both absolutely and relative to other objects. These fixed geometric relations are exploited in a graph-labeling algorithm. Possible identifications are checked against each other for consistent scale, rotation, and translation transforms. The best overall set of identifications is found and is used for navigation.
