General considerations are presented regarding the development of the shipbuilding and its repercussion on the behavior of propulsion plants, especially on gearings. There are also exposed the essential results of investigations executed on encountered damages for different types of bull-gear thrust-block assemblies together with general considerations on the influences of these assemblies on the behavior of the last reduction of gearings. To better expose the harmful effects of structure deformations on the behavior of main gears it is presented the particular treatment of a case related to the independent self-aligning thrust bearing without journal bearing of thrust shaft. Conclusions and recommendations are also provided. (Wassmann)
