Hydrostatic drives offer a good potential for energy saving. Two basic systems are shown. First, energy saving can be achieved by the classival hydrostatic drive with primary control including automotive control of the complete drive. This system is mostly applied to service vehicles. Second, even more effective energy saving can be achieved by hydrostatic drives with secondary control and energy storage. A system for a city service bus is illustrated containing hydrostatic-mechanical transmission and high and low pressure accumulators. (Wassmann)
