General aspects on the planning of a modern underground rail haulage system and the basic demands to be put on ore car loading and unloading arrangements and locomotive to make automation possible are discussed. Methods and systems for different degrees of automation - from local remote-control of a train to fully automatic, un-manned operation - are presented. Two installations of automatic rail haulage systems are described. (Wassmann)
