The development of an automotive hydromechanical transmission is described and the results of in-vehicle testing presented. Fuel economy and performance results are encouraging; emissions increase, however. A second generation transmission is in the design stage; critical components are undergoing development and testing. Significant progress has been made in reduction of size, weight and level of noise generation. (Peters)
