Discusses the Vertical Installation Automation Baseline (VIABLE) project. VIABLE is an integrated nationwide computer network designed around five regional data centers. These centers are tied together together by multiple high speed communication lines in a ring configuration. High performance Amdahl 470 V/7 computers running IBM's MVS operating system are employed.
