Illustrates the significance of what the value engineering effort can mean to a defense contractor and its customer. The achievement of savings of this magnitude required a close coordination and working relationship between the US Army Missile Command (MICOM) and the Raytheon Company. During the production effort on the DRAGON Missile Program no item was considered too small or insignificant to warrant review as a potential VECP candidate. Such an attitude resulted in typical individual VECP savings of dollar6600 - plating change; dollar8703 - rivet change; dollar71685 - locking screw change; dollar175033 - adhesive substitution and the list goes on to the tune of dollar3 million plusÜ.
