In order to achieve maximum effectiveness from organic ground and aviation combat arms, a task organization is formed called a Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF). A MAGTF operates as the Landing Force element of the Navy-Marine Corps team in the conduct of an amphibious operation. It can also operate independently of or in conjunction with other forces in the conduct of land operations. The Landing Force Integrated Communications System (LFICS) is the name given to the total assemblage of organic tactical communications equipment and facilities which support the combat operations of a deployed MAGTF.
