The experimental car features include: lightweight, heavy-duty lead-acid transport cells; novel, static-inverter-powered alternating-current induction-motor drives on each front wheel; a novel pulse-width-modulated waveform generation system incorporating 'electronic gear change'; a simple analogue feedback system which restricts induction-motor slip to that giving maximum or 'drop-out' torque in both motoring and regenerative braking modes of motor operation; and a fixed-ratio high-efficiency toothed-belt drive from each drive motor to its driven front wheel.
