Examines a probabilistic model of a signalized traffic intersection. The development of queues is described by a controlled Markov chain with the state of the signal as the control variable. The arrival distributions can be arbitrary. An optimal feedback control is obtained by dynamic programming. The controller is realized by piece-wise linear machines. Results of computer simulation, based on actual traffic data, are also presented.
