The principles of three types of electronic ignition are outlined using a variable reluctance magnetic detector with a transistor amplifier, an electronic ignition coil with a secondary voltage independent of motor speed and an optically-coupled isolator between the distributor and the circuit supplying the coil. Reed relay, Hall effect and Altonic systems are also mentioned.
