The first of 30 diesel-electric locomotives of Class 56 ordered by BR from Brush Electrical Machines Ltd has been completed by Electroputere at Craiova in Roumania; a further 30 identical units are being built by BREL at Doncaster. All 60 will be powered by GEC's 16RK3CT engine-first application of the 16-cylinder version of rail traction-with Brush electrical equipment.
