The state-of-the-art of aircraft designed according to the Control Configured Vehicle (CCV)-principle is reviewed. After a short introduction on the origin of CCV, the potential gains in airplane performance and efficiency and the related aerodynamic aspects are discussed. From the various existing CCV-concepts, the most promising concept of Augmented Stability (also known as Relaxed Static Stability) is given special attention. It is shown that the application of this concept influences the flight control system design and the formulation of flying qualities specification to a great extent.
