Outlines advantages of thyristor control in comparison with conventional rheostatic control. Compares operational characteristics of the following types of the T-3 tram: with one-stage rheostatic control; with two-stage rheostatic starting control and electrodynamic braking; with pulse control in starting and slow running and rheostatic braking; and with a pulse-controlled starting and slow running and pulse-controlled regenerative braking.
