Preferred versions of a linear traction drive and magnetic suspension system for terrestrial transportation are considered together with the principal requirements applying and parameters for comparison of different variants. Efficiency criteria are proposed that permit quite objective comparison of competitive variants for prescribed external parameters and varied internal parameters, permitting the latter to be optimized.
