Control schemes with much flexibility are needed sometimes on complicated intersections or on intersections where preferential treatment is given to special-traffic flows. The design of such schemes has been structured by the computer program INCA. With this program alternative geometrical designs of the intersection can be compared and a structure of the control scheme can be made. The program FLEXSYT makes it possible to simulate all kind of control processes. The process has to be specified in a traffic control language. The part of the specification that is specific for an intersection is supplie automatically by INCA, such that both programs may be used to analyse the geometric design, make, simulate and evaluate a control scheme. The facilities for the traffic engineer are broadened by these programs. In a rather short time control schemes may be designed, tested and evaluated in an interactive way.
