For many years core memory technology has satisfied the non-volatile memory requirements of military computer systems. Manufacturers have faced the challenge of packaging ever increasing memory capacities into fixed or diminishing volumes with little aid from support electronics manufacturers. Features inherent in core memory have secured its future despite power and weight limitations, but more importantly despite current and developing semiconductor improvements. Gaining practical experience in all memory technologies and being involved early in the development phase of military systems has brought about memory capability previously unequalled within the industry. But most importantly, what was previously a mature to declining market has now become an area of potential growth and redevelopment.
