Developments in high-pressure injection engineering and a growing demand for fuel economy and reduced emissions show the necessity of more accurate and faster reacting devices than present mechanical governors. The only solution to fulfill all these demands is electronic injection control. Research prototypes are described which perform all basic control functions as well as exhaust gas recirculation and all-speed control. Finally, a low cost small-sized control unit for series production is presented together with a programming computer which allows communication with the control unit in the motor engineer's language. Applications cover the range from passenger cars to trucks, in conjunction with in-line pumps or unit injectors.
