There exists a uniqueness in the diesel engine market that is providing an accelerating force in moving transportation electronics to under hood and on-engine applications. The challenge of this harsh environment is compounded by expectations for life and reliability greater than typical automotive standards. Meeting this challenge impacts the full spectrum of new product development including (1) electronic design and packaging, (2) technology application, and (3) manufacturing processes and controls. This paper explores these impacts.
