The paper considers the modelling problem for the dynamic analysis of road vehicles due to excitation of stochastic road surface roughness. The structure of a vehicle is considered as a distributed parameter system excited by the stochastic road profile through the wheels and axles. These last elements can be modelled as concentrated parameter systems. The dynamic behaviour of the distributed systems. The dynamic behaviour of the distributed systems can be described by partial linear or nonlinear differential equations where the parameters contained in these equations are in general functions of the spatial variables/see Michelberger (1). To model the above system, the parameters in the equations have to be known or estimated using linear or nonlinear identification methods. The basic nonlinear phenomena in dynamic behaviour of ground vehicles are related to the progressive damping and stiffnes characteristics of the 'axle/body dynamics' and the nonlinear response of the pneumatics of the wheels excited by the road surface.
