The modelling problem for dynamic analysis of commercial or public service road vehicles due to excitation of stochastic road surface roughness is considered. It is shown that under reasonable assumptions, the body dynamic can be described by linear models, and the axle dynamics can be described by nonlinear Volterra or Zadeh functional series models. Statistical structure detection methods are suggested to explore the nonlinear characteristics from measured acceleration and road profile excitation data.
