This paper describes a research project on electric car carried out in the University of Hong Kong. The drive system consists of a 3-phase induction motor controlled by a PWM power transistorized inverter. The technical features of the overall system and subsystem are presented. The novel improvements in the PWM modules and inverter are given. The control strategy of the system to maximize available inverter's power and motor's power and torque is discussed.
