The parallel operation of two induction motors on one frequency converter has found some interest for railway drives. In this paper the transient behaviour of such drives is discussed. A structural diagram of two parallel-connected induction motors is presented. Two different control options, the stator-current/rotor-frequency control, and the field orientated control are investigated. On a laboratory test set-up of two induction motors with simulated wheel-slip of one motor the superiority of the field orientated control is proved.
