Much research is being conducted in the area of decoupled mode control systems for control configured vehicles (CCV). One such mode is pitch pointing where decoupling of specified variables is the control objective. This paper describes the application of eigenstructure assignment to the design of such systems. The eigenvectors are chosen in an intuitively appealing way to obtain the desired mode decoupling. Then the eigenvalues are chosen to trade off the degree of decoupling versus the speed of the response. This simple design method is illustrated by designing a pitch pointing control law for the AFTI/F-16 aircraft.
