There is no doubt that at this time we are in the second industrial revolution - this time around in the electronics industry. Over the next few years enormous improvements and increases will be made in electronic systems within the automobile. This paper like many others are just steps along that progressive path, but the authors hope that it will give the readers food for thought and possibly some assistance. It is far better to remove a cause rather than treat the symptoms i.e. remove load dump at source rather than have to protect against it at dozens of points in the vehicle. No doubt our ultimate system (or at least one in the next few years) will be an optical highway multiplexed system. This will enable us to get rid of the troublesome looms we call car harnesses. This will also assist in reductions of induced voltage spikes. However such systems require switched inputs. Will those switches be based on a clicker plate, with LED illumination?
