Describes a vehicle logging system as a convenient example for the application of a microprocessor to replace hard-wired logic. Minimal software is used and the system was developed in a relatively short period of time by a non-specialist with the minimum of help. This example illustrates the ease with which circuit designers are accepting the role of the microprocessor.
