This article is intended to give an insight into the most important and longest established field of electronic instrumentation within the oil industry. The activity concerned is commonly referred to as wireline logging, and it relates to all those measurements which can be made by lowering sensors (sondes) into a borehole. The technology involved is distinguished by the extreme operating conditions, notably pressures of up to 20000 lb/in 2, and temperatures of around 200 Cel.
